Accessibility Statement

ICE BIKES UK wants everyone to be able to use this website: to browse the range, read the blog, find events and buy online. This page explains what we have done, what we know still falls short, and how to tell us about a problem.

What we are aiming for

We aim for the site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This website has not yet been independently audited, so we can’t say that it fully meets that standard. The sections below are an honest account of where it stands.

What works today

  • Keyboard use. A “Skip to content” link is the first thing you reach by keyboard, and the focus outline is always visible. The menu, search, cart and the full-screen product image can all be opened and closed from the keyboard. Escape closes them and puts you back where you were.
  • Structure. Pages use proper headings and page regions. Navigation is labelled, and the page you are on is marked in the menu.
  • Colour and text. The site is black, white and grey, chosen for strong contrast between text and background. Text can be zoomed and resized, and the layout adapts to phones, tablets and desktops.
  • Images. Product images are described with the product’s name. Extra copies of the same picture, such as thumbnails and hover images, are hidden from screen readers so they aren’t read out twice.
  • Forms. Form fields have visible labels, required fields are marked, and error messages are tied to the field they belong to so assistive technology can read them.
  • Pause control. The home page’s background video and its two scrolling text strips can be paused, and played again, with the pause button at the end of the first strip and the matching button beside the Race Team strip. Your choice is remembered on that device. All three are decoration only and are hidden from screen readers.
  • Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the opening animation, the background video (a still image shows instead), the scrolling text strip, scroll effects and smooth scrolling are all switched off.

What doesn’t meet the standard yet

  • Cookie banner. The cookie notice is supplied by the Wix platform that hosts the site. We have restyled it to match the site, but we can’t change its underlying structure, so parts of it may not meet the standard.
  • Checkout and payment. When you choose Checkout you are taken to pages provided and hosted by Wix. We don’t control how accessible those pages are.
  • Content added in the dashboard. Blog posts, race team profiles, event pages and product descriptions are written and uploaded by the team. We try to describe every image, but some older content may be missing text descriptions or have long, unbroken text.
  • Other websites. Links to Instagram, Facebook and other sites take you to places we don’t control.

Tell us about a problem

If you can’t use part of this website, or you need something in a different format, please tell us through the Contact Us form. It helps if you say which page it is, what went wrong, and what browser or assistive technology you were using. We read every report and will use them to fix problems.

If you’re not happy with our response

In England, Scotland and Wales you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS). In Northern Ireland you can contact the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.
